Beauty Basics: Makeup Brushes

Makeup brushes are the most important beauty tools for makeup you can every own. With proper care high quality brushes can last you for a lifetime. Personally I use brushes from a wide variety of brands both high-end and drugstore brands. In this post I’m going the share some of my favourite brushes and what I normally use them for.

❤ Eye Brushes:

These three brushes are my some favourite brushes to use for regular eyeshadow application.
GOSH Flat eyeshadow brush #332: This brush is one of the best brush I own for eyeshadow application on the lid. The brush is quite dense and its therefore perfect for packing on colours on the eyelid.
Beauty Needs eyeshadow brush: The brush is slightly smaller then the brush by GOSH and it’s also great for eyeshadow application on the eyelid.
Beauty Needs Lip Brush: This brush is actually a lip brush, but because of its perfect size this brush allows me to apply colour to my inner tear duct area.

Using blending brushes is key to a perfect makeup look! Here are some of my favourite ones that I frequently use.
MAC #217 Blending Brush: I use this brush for both applying eyeshadows on the lid and for blending out harsh lines.
Urban Decay Naked 2 palette Blending Brush: The brush is great for blending eyeshadows in the crease and because of the soft hairs it makes blending so much easier.
ELF Blending Brush: ELF’s Blending Brush is one of my favourite brush, I actually own quite a few of these brushes. I love the brush not only for the reasonable price but because of the shape of the brush, it’s just the perfect shape to use for blending eyeshadows in the outer V and in the crease.

❤ Face Brushes:

One of the best ways to achieve a flawless finish with your foundation, is by applying the foundation using a stippling brush. By simply buffing in the liquid foundation using these brushes gives is a great coverage as well as a beautiful natural finish.
Real Technique Stipple Brush:
Using this brush to apply liquid foundation in small circler motions gives the skin a perfect and flawless finish. Because of the perfect size this brush is great to apply other liquid or cream products such as cream blushers or liquid highlighters.
ELF’s stippling brush:
This brush was one of my first stippling brushes I tried and this brush made me stop using traditional foundation brushes. The brush is very affordable and gives the face a flawless finish.
Forever 21 Top Flat Stippling brush: I bought this brush last year at Forever 21 and it came in a set of three. I like to use this brush for cream foundations because of the flat top, it really makes buffing in the product easy!

Real Techniques Expert Face brush: I love this brush because the hairs are very dense and it’s perfect for contouring my face! Click here to see how I contour my face.

Beauty Needs Powder Brush: I use this brush to apply my setting powder. I love the size of it not big nor to small!
Forever 21 Blush Brush: This brush came in the brush set from Forever 21, and I use this brush to apply my bronzer or blush on my cheeks!
Forever 21 Angled Contour/highlight brush: This brush is also from the brush set, and I particularly use this brush to apply my powder highlight on the top of my cheekbones.

What are some of your favourite brushes?

  1. Wow, this is a great overview you got here. I always am so apprehensive to buy expensive brushes. I know they are worth the money to buy the pricier ones, but I just can’t bring myself to spend $15-20 on a brush when I could buy some more makeup with that money. I guess I should be looking at it as an investment. I’m too cheap for my own good. 😉

    1. Thank you! Yes I know how you feel! But they are, like you said, an investment and can last you for a really long time! Elf has actually some really nice brushes and they are very very affordable! Check them out:) thanks for commenting!

      1. …I seriously just ordered a bunch of Elf brushes the other day! 🙂 It was like a bunch of them for $30, which I thought was a super good deal. Alright, cool. I’m glad they’ll be decent quality – I wasn’t really sure with the cheap price and all.

  2. Aww that’s so helpful, I’m terrible at picking the right brushes – I shall be hitting the shops and getting all the right brushes 😉 really does make a difference when you use them correctly. Love the layout of your blog btw pictures look amazing! I’ve started a beauty blog as well – would love to know what you thought of it 🙂
